80,000 Non-Immigrant Visas Revoked Under Trump’s Immigration Drive

In a sweeping continuation of its tough immigration stance, the Trump administration has revoked around 80,000 non-immigrant visas since taking office, a senior US State Department official confirmed on Wednesday. The move is part of a broader immigration crackdown that has reshaped visa and deportation policies across the United States.

The revocations span a range of offenses, including driving under the influence (DUI), assault, and theft. According to the official, about 16,000 revocations were linked to DUI cases, 12,000 to assault, and 8,000 to theft, collectively accounting for nearly half of all cancellations.

“These three crimes alone have contributed significantly to this year’s visa revocations,” said the State Department source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The figure highlights the scale of the administration’s enforcement strategy, which began soon after Trump assumed office. The policy not only targets undocumented migrants but also individuals holding valid visas who are deemed to have violated US laws or policies.

Earlier in August, the department revealed that over 6,000 student visas were revoked for overstays and legal violations, including a few tied to alleged “support for terrorism.” In recent months, Washington has intensified its social media screening process and imposed stricter vetting standards for visa applicants.

Last month, the department also confirmed that at least six people had their visas revoked over controversial social media comments concerning the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has emphasized that visa restrictions will continue to apply to individuals engaged in activities “contrary to US foreign policy interests,” including public expressions of support for Palestine or criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Officials have directed diplomats abroad to closely monitor applicants for potential political activism, labeling certain activities as threats to national security. Critics argue that the administration’s approach blurs the line between law enforcement and political suppression, raising concerns about free speech and fair process.

As the administration doubles down on its immigration agenda, the massive scale of these visa cancellations signals a continuing hardline stance — one that intertwines domestic law enforcement with Washington’s foreign policy priorities.
