Chris Woakes Retires from England Cricket at 36

London: England all-rounder Chris Woakes has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 36, following confirmation from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that he was no longer in their plans.

Woakes played his final match last month against India at The Oval, where he walked out to bat one-handed with his arm in a sling after dislocating his shoulder in the field. He did not face a ball as India won by six runs to level the series 2-2.

The injury ruled him out of consideration for this winter's Ashes tour to Australia, effectively ending his England career. Rob Key, ECB Managing Director of Men's Cricket, had indicated last week that Woakes was unlikely to feature again.

"The moment has come, and I've decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket," Woakes wrote in an Instagram post. He added, "Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams."

Woakes enjoyed a distinguished career, taking 192 wickets in 62 Test matches and scoring over 2,000 runs at an average of more than 25. Known for his reliable medium-fast bowling and handy batting, he played a key role in England’s successes over the past decade.

England are set to face Australia in a five-Test Ashes series starting in Perth on November 21, marking the next chapter in their cricketing calendar without Woakes.

England will now look to fill the void left by Woakes as the Ashes series approaches, while the all-rounder retires from international cricket with a celebrated career behind him.
