Brampton Resident Arrested in Etobicoke Hit-and-Run Incident

A 40-year-old resident of Brampton has been charged following a hit-and-run incident in Etobicoke that critically injured a pedestrian.

The incident unfolded Saturday night in the Rexdale neighborhood, specifically at the intersection of Albion Road and Islington Avenue. Toronto Police Service reported that officers were alerted about a serious accident involving a pedestrian around 9:23 p.m.

According to investigators, a 58-year-old man was on the sidewalk when a red Toyota Corolla, moving westbound, veered into oncoming traffic, mounting the sidewalk. The vehicle hit the pedestrian before continuing toward a nearby parking lot.

Authorities stated that the car also collided with a fence and two parked cars before the driver fled the scene on foot. Emergency services rushed the critically injured pedestrian to the hospital, while two passengers from the vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

The suspect, identified as Suraju Ishau, surrendered to police the next day. He faces multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ishau is set to appear in bail court as investigations continue. Police are calling on anyone with additional information to step forward.

This incident underscores persistent concerns regarding road safety and hit-and-run cases, reminding drivers of their legal obligation to remain at the scene and assist after collisions.
