Dubai, UAE – 24th July 2025: Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), has expressed his optimism about the future of Formula 1, calling it more exciting than ever as the 2025 season heads into this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.
With this year’s calendar already showcasing some of the most thrilling racing in recent times and more action still ahead, Ben Sulayem believes that the addition of a new team, updated regulations, and a fresh venue next year will further boost the sport’s global appeal.
“As we arrive at the midpoint of the 2025 season, our eyes are already set on the opportunities next year holds,” said the FIA President.
“There’s a lot for fans to be excited about—Cadillac will be entering as the 11th team, new FIA regulations will bring in lighter, more agile cars using sustainable fuel, and Madrid will join the circuit as a brand-new race destination.
“This season has seen incredible competition, with exceptional talent on display. Formula 1 is also helping us achieve our wider goal at the FIA: encouraging global involvement in motorsport. No matter their background, skilled young drivers have a real pathway, and the upcoming generation of racers is already emerging.”
Could this pave the way for the Middle East’s first-ever Formula 1 driver?
“While we haven’t yet had a Formula 1 driver from the Middle East, that could change soon as more young talents rise from a region keen to make a stronger impact in F1 and international motorsport,” he added.
“The popularity of Formula 1 has seen extraordinary growth across the Arab world, especially among the youth and female audiences. In Saudi Arabia, there’s a major emphasis on engaging young people at every level of motorsport—something we’re also seeing in Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE. This inclusive energy is crucial for the continued growth and long-term future of motorsport across the region.”
