Colombo, Sri Lanka – It was a night to remember for Bangladesh cricket fans. After a rocky start to the T20 series, the Tigers made a powerful comeback to beat Sri Lanka 2–1 in the three-match series. With an eight-wicket win in the final match held on Wednesday, Bangladesh not only secured the series but also created history by winning their first-ever T20 series on Sri Lankan soil.

The match took place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, and it turned out to be one of the most dominant performances by the Bangladesh team in recent years.

How the Match Unfolded

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first, but their plan did not go as expected. Despite scoring 14 runs in the very first over, they struggled to build on that good start. Wickets kept falling regularly, especially after Bangladesh's off-spinner Mehedi Hasan was brought into the attack.

Mehedi Hasan’s Magical Spell

Mehedi Hasan bowled the best game of his T20 International career. He took four wickets and gave away only 11 runs in his four overs. His amazing bowling put a break on Sri Lanka’s innings and helped keep the total down to just 132 runs in 20 overs.

  • He bowled Kusal Perera with his very first delivery.

  • He also dismissed Dinesh Chandimal and Charith Asalanka.

  • His final wicket came when he caught Pathum Nissanka off his own bowling.

These four wickets were crucial. Mehedi’s previous best bowling figure in T20 Internationals was 4-13 against the West Indies, but he broke that record with 4-11 in this match.

Sri Lanka’s Struggle to Score

Sri Lanka’s top order failed to deliver. After a strong first over, their momentum dropped. Pathum Nissanka was the top scorer for the team with 46 runs. Captain Dasun Shanaka tried to fight back and scored 35 not out, hitting 21 runs in the final over to give the team some hope. But even that could not push the total to a competitive score.

Other than Nissanka and Shanaka, no other batter could stay long at the crease. Sri Lanka ended their innings at 132 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Bangladesh’s Calm and Confident Chase

Bangladesh’s chase started with a setback. They lost Parvez Hossain Emon on the very first ball of the innings. But instead of panicking, the team stayed calm and focused. Tanzid Hasan Tamim, playing one of the best innings of his young career, took charge of the chase.

He scored a career-best 73 runs, not out, from just 47 balls. His innings included:

  • 6 huge sixes

  • 1 boundary

  • A strike rate that showed complete control and confidence

Tamim first built a strong partnership with captain Litton Das, adding 74 runs in just 50 balls. After Litton got out for 32, Towhid Hridoy joined Tamim and together they finished the job with ease. Their unbeaten partnership of 59 runs helped Bangladesh reach the target with 21 balls (3.3 overs) left.

Litton Das Praises the Team’s Comeback

After the match, team captain Litton Das was full of praise for his players. He said, “The boys showed real character, especially after how badly we played the first T20. This is a big achievement for Bangladesh. It will boost our cricket and inspire the new generation. We have big dreams, and this win helps us move forward.”

Litton was also named the Player of the Series, a recognition of his smart leadership and solid batting throughout the three matches.

A Rollercoaster Series for Bangladesh

This win was especially sweet because of how the series began. In the first T20 match, Bangladesh was outplayed by Sri Lanka and lost by seven wickets. Many fans were disappointed, and critics questioned the team’s preparation.

But the team bounced back in the second game. They won by a massive margin of 83 runs, leveling the series 1–1. That victory gave the team the confidence they needed, and they carried that momentum into the final match, playing their best cricket when it mattered most.

Why This Win Matters

This is not just any series win — it is historic. Bangladesh had never won a T20 series in Sri Lanka before. Winning it 2–1, and that too in such a commanding style, means a lot for the team and its supporters. It also shows that Bangladesh is growing as a team and can now perform well even in away conditions.

For young players like Tamim and Mehedi, this series will be remembered as a turning point in their careers. Their performances under pressure show that Bangladesh cricket has a bright future.

Key Highlights from the Match

  • Mehedi Hasan: 4 wickets for 11 runs — his best-ever T20 performance

  • Tamim: 73 not out from 47 balls — his highest T20I score

  • Litton Das: Led from the front, scored runs, and won Player of the Series

  • Bangladesh’s chase: Reached the target in just 16.3 overs

What’s Next?

This win sets a strong tone for Bangladesh as they look forward to more international cricket. It will boost their confidence ahead of upcoming T20 tournaments and series. For fans, it is a reason to celebrate and feel proud of how far their team has come.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and coaching staff will be pleased, not just because of the result, but because of how the team played together — with heart, teamwork, and discipline.

Bangladesh’s victory in Colombo is not just a win on the scoreboard. It is a sign of their rising strength in international cricket. They showed they could learn from mistakes, bounce back, and dominate when it counts.

From Mehedi’s magical bowling to Tamim’s fearless batting, every player played their part. The team showed unity, determination, and the ability to fight back — qualities every great team needs.

For Bangladesh cricket, this was more than just a series win. It was a moment of pride, progress, and promise.
