The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially launched commercial operations of autonomous taxis in Dubai, marking a significant step toward the emirate’s smart mobility ambitions.
The service is currently available in the vibrant مناطق of Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, where residents and visitors can now book driverless rides through the Uber and Apollo Go platforms.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with WeRide and Apollo Go. While WeRide provides autonomous vehicles accessible via Uber, Apollo Go—backed by Baidu—offers its services through its dedicated app. Fleet management and operations are handled by Tawasul Transport in collaboration with Dubai Taxi Company.
This rollout reflects Dubai’s long-term strategy to integrate advanced technologies into its transport ecosystem. It also supports the goals of the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to transform mobility through innovation and automation.
In the initial phase, around 100 autonomous taxis have been deployed across the city, with plans for gradual expansion based on demand. The selected مناطق—Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah—are key locations near public beaches, making them ideal for early adoption.
Before launching the service, extensive trials were conducted on Dubai’s roads to ensure operational readiness and compliance with the highest safety standards. These vehicles operate using advanced artificial intelligence, high-definition mapping, and deep learning systems, enabling them to navigate real-time traffic conditions, including intersections, pedestrians, and traffic signals.
The autonomous system has already demonstrated strong global performance, with over 150 million kilometres of safe driving and more than 10 million completed trips worldwide. This experience has helped establish a reliable and scalable model for commercial deployment in Dubai.
With this launch, Dubai further strengthens its position as a global hub for future mobility solutions, supported by world-class infrastructure, forward-looking policies, and a strong commitment to innovation.
