Arlo Technologies, a popular smart home security company, has announced a new update to its Arlo Secure Plus service in Australia and New Zealand. The update includes a powerful feature called Advanced Audio Detection, which uses smart technology to help protect homes by listening for important sounds.
This new tool is part of Arlo’s effort to make home security more useful and easy to use. Matthew McRae, the CEO of Arlo, said, “We want to keep improving how home security works. With this smart sound feature, we’re helping users stay alert and take action quickly when needed.”
What Is Advanced Audio Detection?
Advanced Audio Detection is designed to recognize sounds that could mean trouble. It can now alert users when it hears:
Screaming – If someone nearby screams, the camera will send an alert so you can check what’s happening.
Gunshots – If a gunshot is heard, you’ll get a warning to view your camera feed right away.
Dog Barking – You’ll be notified if your dog starts barking, so you can see whether it’s reacting to danger or just a stray cat.
Glass Breaking – If the sound of glass shattering is detected, you’ll get an alert so you can check for break-ins or accidents.
Smoke or CO alarms – If an alarm goes off, your camera will hear it and alert you immediately.
All these features are meant to give people real-time alerts so they can respond quickly if something goes wrong.
Where and How It Works
This sound detection update will be available on Arlo’s Essential Indoor 2K Camera and Wired Floodlight Camera in both Australia and New Zealand starting this month. Anyone who buys these devices will also get a 30-day free trial of Arlo Secure Plus, so they can try out all the features.

More Than Just Sound Alerts
The Arlo Secure Plus plan already includes helpful tools like Person Detection, Vehicle Detection, and Custom Alerts, which can be set to notice certain movements or events. Now, with the added audio alerts, users can feel even more confident that they’ll be notified of anything unusual—whether they’re home or away.
Arlo says its goal is to give people better control over their home security with tools that are easy to understand and use. The company also promises that everything works within a safe and secure system.
