Actor Arjun Kapoor opened up about his mental health journey, battle with obesity, and the pressures of sudden fame during his session at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai. He emphasized the need to normalize therapy and embrace vulnerability as a sign of strength.
Arjun Kapoor Reflects on His Lowest Phase
Arjun revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic became a turning point in his life. It made him realize that he had been neglecting his mental and physical well-being for nearly a decade. “I started therapy after realizing I hadn’t taken care of myself for ten years,” he said.
Reflecting on personal loss, Arjun recalled the pain of losing his mother Mona Shourie Kapoor in 2012, just before his debut Ishaqzaade released. “I was mourning and celebrating at the same time. I became a star overnight, but I was only running away from my pain,” he admitted.
His Struggle with Obesity
Arjun also spoke about his long journey toward fitness. “Losing 50 kilos took me four years. It was as much a mental battle as a physical one,” he shared. He credited his late mother for being his emotional anchor. “When you lose your backbone at 25, what can the world do to you?” he added.
Encouraging Therapy and Emotional Strength
Urging young people to prioritize mental health, Arjun encouraged them to seek therapy without hesitation. “There’s nothing wrong with being vulnerable. The strongest people are those who can acknowledge their emotions,” he said. He described therapy as a “safe outlet for expression that helps individuals feel empowered and sensible.”
Closing his address, Arjun urged the audience to “wear their emotions with pride” and embrace vulnerability as courage. “You can be emotional and still be powerful,” he concluded.
Arjun Kapoor was last seen in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which grossed around ₹6.75 crore worldwide. He will next appear in No Entry 2.
