The University of Arizona men’s basketball team continued its strong start to the season with a powerful 103-73 win over Denver on Monday night in Tucson. The Wildcats, ranked No. 2 in the country, showed their strength early and kept control of the game from the opening minutes. Two freshman guards, Brayden Burries and Ivan Kharchenkov, were the stars of the night as both finished with 20 points each. Their performance helped Arizona stay perfect with a 6-0 record and remain one of the top teams in college basketball.
Arizona’s young players were impressive throughout the game. Freshman Dwayne Aristode added 17 points, while fellow freshman Koa Peat scored 12 points before fouling out. Their scoring support helped the Wildcats keep Denver under pressure the entire night. Another important contribution came from Tobe Awaka, who came off the bench to score 12 points and collect an incredible 15 rebounds. His presence under the basket helped Arizona maintain full control.
One of the biggest differences in the game was Arizona’s power in the paint. The Wildcats outrebounded Denver 50-29, giving them many extra chances to score. They also dominated inside scoring, finishing with a massive 50-22 advantage in points near the basket. This strong inside play showed how much control Arizona had on both offense and defense. Burries grabbed seven rebounds, while Kharchenkov and Aristode collected five each. Their effort helped Arizona stay ahead comfortably.
Arizona played a very unselfish game, moving the ball well and finding easy scoring opportunities. The Wildcats had 26 assists on their 41 made baskets, showing strong teamwork and coordination. Anthony Dell’Orso led the team with seven assists. The way Arizona shared the ball kept Denver off balance and unable to stop their rhythm.
Denver tried to stay competitive but struggled to match Arizona’s fast pace and powerful offense. Carson Johnson led the Pioneers with 18 points, while Zane Nelson added 17 points with a solid shooting performance. Still, Denver fell behind early and could not recover against the Wildcats’ strong attack and tight defense.
The Wildcats started the game with great energy, scoring the first 13 points before Denver finally made its first field goal with nearly seven minutes gone. Arizona then went on another big 19-2 run to extend the lead to 33-7. By halftime, Arizona led 56-28 after shooting more than 52 percent from the field. Burries and Kharchenkov alone scored a combined 24 points by halftime, outscoring the entire Denver team at one point.
Arizona remained dominant in the second half, shooting nearly 57 percent for the game and making 12 of their 28 three-point attempts. Aristode hit four three-pointers, while Burries added three more. At one stretch, Arizona made 12 straight field goals, showing complete control of the game.
With this win, Arizona once again proved why it is one of the strongest teams in the country. Their young players, strong teamwork, and powerful scoring make them a tough opponent for anyone. Burries, Kharchenkov, and their teammates continue to shine as the Wildcats look forward to tougher matchups ahead.
