Abu Dhabi is ramping up efforts to protect outdoor workers from summer heat with the 11th edition of its Safety in Heat programme, a key initiative by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC). The programme, which has been running for over a decade, has successfully reached more than 9 million workers across vital sectors, significantly raising awareness about heat-related risks and promoting safe working practices.
Since its inception, the programme has conducted 22,164 awareness and inspection visits, providing hands-on guidance to workers and employers alike. Central to its strategy is the midday work ban issued by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, restricting work in open areas under direct sunlight from 12:30pm to 3pm between 15 June and 15 September. This measure ensures that workers are protected from heat stress and can perform duties safely.

In 2025, ADPHC has updated the programme with a comprehensive awareness package, featuring social media posts, educational videos, onsite posters, and an implementation toolkit. The materials are available in six languages—Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Tagalog, and Bengali—ensuring accessibility for all workers. So far, 884,200 materials have been disseminated across workplaces in Abu Dhabi.
His Excellency Dr Rashed Alsuwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, emphasized the programme’s impact, stating: “The Safety in Heat programme exemplifies our commitment to safeguarding workers’ health and wellbeing. Its success reflects the collaboration between government and private sector partners, creating a sustainable model for workplace safety and reducing health risks associated with extreme heat.”
Through awareness, training, and proactive measures, ADPHC continues to safeguard Abu Dhabi’s workforce, making occupational safety a top priority during the challenging summer months.
