Former Masters champion Adam Scott has announced he is ready to compete with the best golfers again at the Australian PGA Championship this week. Despite a long period without a win, the 45-year-old believes he remains physically and mentally capable of competing at the highest level. Scott is determined to prove he is still relevant in professional golf.
Back in Australia, Scott admitted that opportunities to win have been limited over the past few years. “I feel like the chances have been kind of few and far between the last couple of years, and I haven't taken advantage of it when I've been there,” he told reporters at Royal Queensland. He believes that a strong performance in the coming weeks could give his career a much-needed boost.
Scott, a former world number one, has 32 professional wins. His last victory was at the 2020 Genesis Invitational. However, this year has been challenging for the veteran golfer. He missed the cut at the Masters for the first time since 2009 and had a disappointing final round of 79 at the U.S. Open, where he had been in contention for a second major title. Despite these setbacks, Scott’s body remains strong, and he feels confident in his ability to compete.
“I’m starting to turn into that kind of old golf pro,” Scott joked, reflecting on how his view of older golfers has changed as he ages. He skipped last year’s Australian PGA event, which was won by young Queenslander Elvis Smylie. Scott emphasizes that he is still motivated and not experiencing the aches or pains often associated with veteran players. His focus is on sharpening his game and returning to the winning circle.
Scott is aiming to add a third Australian PGA Championship win to his previous victories in 2013 and 2019. He believes his experience gives him an edge, while his determination and strong physical condition allow him to compete with younger players. He is confident that with renewed focus, he can achieve success once again.
Scott stressed that staying physically fit and mentally sharp is key to his continued success. He wants to prove that age has not diminished his abilities and that he can still compete at a top level. His message is clear: he is ready to challenge himself and demonstrate that veteran players can still achieve great results in professional golf tournaments.
Adam Scott’s determination reflects the mindset of a true competitor. He is focused on returning to the top of his game, improving his focus, and achieving another win. His story serves as inspiration for other athletes, showing that with motivation, experience, and strength, it is possible to continue performing at the highest level even after years without major victories.
