Abu Dhabi International Renamed Zayed International Airport

Effective February 9, Abu Dhabi International Airport is officially renamed Zayed International Airport. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor of Special Affairs at the Presidential Court and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports' Board of Directors, attended the renaming ceremony to honor the UAE's Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The directive came from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, coinciding with the official opening of Terminal A.

The renaming ceremony, attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, celebrated the late Sheikh Zayed's achievements in connecting the UAE globally. The new name aligns with Abu Dhabi's aspirations as a leading hub for travel, trade, and commerce. The airport's state-of-the-art Terminal A, introduced in 2023, solidifies its position, catering to 11,000 passengers per hour and serving as the home base for Etihad Airways.

The new brand identity, revealed during the renaming, incorporates iconic elements inspired by Abu Dhabi's landscape and history, as well as the airport's design. This includes a traditional dhow boat, a date palm tree, the desert sun, the Qasr Al Hosn Fort, and Terminal A. The unveiling included a spectacular air display of over 1,750 drones forming the airport's new logo.

Terminal A, crowned the world's top airport operator at The World Travel Awards, offers world-class facilities, including biometric technology, extensive retail and F&B space, and 163 outlets for an enhanced passenger experience. In its first 60 days of operation, Zayed International Airport welcomed 4.48 million passengers, reflecting its growth with 117 travel destinations in December 2023, a 20% increase from 2022. Celebrations for the renaming include discounts and special offers for travelers from February 9 to 11. Etihad Airways also launches a special offer to mark the occasion.
