4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Andaman Sea

An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit the Andaman Sea early on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2025. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed the event in an official update shared on their social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The tremor occurred at exactly 1:43:50 AM Indian Standard Time (IST). According to the seismic data shared by NCS, the earthquake originated at a depth of 20 kilometers below the earth’s surface. The precise coordinates of the epicentre were latitude 9.46° North and longitude 94.07° East, placing it in the Andaman Sea region.

This region, located near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is part of a seismically active zone due to its position along the boundary of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. Minor to moderate earthquakes are not uncommon here.
