Xpeng, Alibaba's Amap Join Forces to Launch Robotaxi Fleet

Chinese electric vehicle pioneer Xpeng is taking a bold step into autonomous mobility. The company announced on Wednesday that it will partner with Alibaba’s digital mapping platform, Amap, to launch a fleet of self-driving robotaxis.

Xpeng revealed plans to roll out three of its self-developed robotaxi models, which are expected to begin trial operations in 2026. These driverless vehicles will be fully integrated with Amap’s mapping and navigation system, offering users seamless ride-hailing experiences.

Amap, which already collaborates with autonomous vehicle firms such as WeRide and Pony.ai, will serve as the central platform for Xpeng’s upcoming robotaxi services. This integration allows Xpeng to leverage Amap’s mapping precision and traffic data, enhancing the efficiency and safety of its autonomous fleet.

Looking beyond China, Xpeng said it intends to develop a global robotaxi network in partnership with Amap. While specific timelines and locations have not been disclosed, the collaboration signals the companies’ ambition to become major players in the international autonomous mobility market.

The move comes amid a surge in China’s autonomous vehicle industry, with several EV makers racing to deploy driverless services. By combining Xpeng’s vehicle technology with Amap’s navigation expertise, the companies aim to offer a competitive, large-scale robotaxi service that could redefine urban transportation.
