Dubai hosts 11th World Green Economy Summit

Dubai witnessed the opening of the 11th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The event was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.

Organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), this year’s summit carries the theme “Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy.” More than 100 international speakers, ministers, senior officials and experts in climate action, economy and sustainability are participating.

The summit highlights how innovation and advanced technologies are reshaping climate action. Discussions focus on the role of artificial intelligence in monitoring emissions, the Internet of Things in resource efficiency, and Big Data in improving climate resilience.

Latest figures underline the momentum of the green economy. Global revenues reached $7.9 trillion in early 2025, expected to grow to $30 trillion by 2033. Investment in low-carbon energy transition hit a record $2.1 trillion in 2024, with renewable capacity projected to double by 2050.

Dubai’s clean energy drive remains a central feature. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has surpassed targets, with capacity now set to exceed 8,000 MW by 2030, reducing emissions by 8.5 million tonnes annually. The site, the world’s largest single-site solar park, also houses the world’s largest thermal energy storage project and upcoming large-scale battery systems.

The summit further stresses the need for sustainable finance, resilient infrastructure, and youth-led innovation to accelerate the global green economy. Finland’s sustainability journey and the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy are being presented as examples of long-term national commitments.

As WGES unfolds in Dubai, it offers a global platform for governments, businesses and innovators to align strategies, scale clean energy solutions and explore practical paths toward a sustainable future.
