The United States is increasing pressure on Ukraine to accept a new peace deal aimed at ending the ongoing war with Russia. According to people familiar with the discussions, Washington has warned Kyiv that intelligence sharing and weapons supplies could be reduced if Ukraine refuses to move forward with the proposal.
The situation unfolded in Kyiv, where senior US military officials met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The meeting came during a tense moment, as the US urged Ukraine to agree to the framework of a peace deal by next Thursday.
The proposed deal includes a 28-point plan presented by Washington. The plan supports several key demands made by Russia, including requiring Ukraine to give up more territory, reduce the size of its military, and remain outside of NATO.
Sources say this is the strongest pressure the US has ever put on Ukraine during peace talks. One source said the US wants the war to end quickly, even if Ukraine has to “pay the price” by making difficult concessions.
Kyiv is being asked to sign the framework soon, and US officials described the timeline as “aggressive.”
The US proposal reportedly requires Ukraine to:
Cede additional territory currently contested with Russia
Limit the size of its armed forces
Commit to not joining NATO
Accept a new security arrangement with the United States
In return, Ukraine would receive long-term security guarantees and continued international support.
President Zelensky met with the visiting US delegation to discuss the proposal. While some American officials called the meeting “successful,” there is concern in Ukraine about being pressured into accepting terms that could weaken the country’s future security.
Washington’s message was clear: if Ukraine does not agree soon, US intelligence and weapons support may be scaled back.
Ukraine now faces a critical deadline. If it agrees to the plan, the war could move toward a negotiated end. If it refuses, it risks losing its most important military and intelligence partner.
