Sharjah – His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the University of Kalba’s Board of Trustees meeting, highlighting the institution’s achievements and setting ambitious plans for the future. The session underscored the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research development, and community engagement.
Commitment to Excellence and Collaboration
His Highness praised the board for elevating the university’s standing and emphasised the importance of attracting top academic and administrative talent. “Integration among disciplines and collaboration between colleges are key to fostering a university environment that inspires creativity, innovation, and service to the community,” he noted.
The ruler stressed that a holistic academic ecosystem not only improves student outcomes but also strengthens research outputs, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to meet global standards.
Launch of New Academic Programs
During the meeting, the Board approved several new academic programs to be launched in the 2026–2027 academic year. These include:
Bachelor of Science in Sports Rehabilitation
Bachelor of Science in Sports Nutrition and Health Wellness
Bachelor of Science in E-Sports and Interactive Technologies
Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
Additionally, the existing Bachelor of Science in Sports Science will offer two specialised tracks: Physical Education, and Sports Coaching and Management.
University Achievements and Future Plans
Dr Najwa Al Hosani, Director of the University, highlighted the institution’s progress over the past year, including academic growth, enhanced research output, digital transformation, and community initiatives. She reaffirmed the university’s strategic plan to develop qualified national talent capable of driving comprehensive societal development.
Digital Leap: New Library Website
On the sidelines, His Highness inaugurated the university library’s new digital platform, offering access to over 400,000 e-journals, 300,000 digital books, and leading international databases such as EBSCO, ProQuest, and Emerald. This upgrade strengthens research capabilities and positions the university as a hub of knowledge and innovation.
Celebrating Student Innovation
The ruler also explored student-led projects spanning innovation, entrepreneurship, and sports, commending the creativity and active engagement of Sharjah’s youth. Students demonstrated how academic learning has translated into tangible projects, international awards, and notable achievements, reflecting the university’s supportive environment.

The meeting saw participation from key leaders including Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Dr Abdulaziz Saeed Al Muhairi, Dr Najwa Al Hosani, and representatives from various academic, municipal, and financial bodies, reflecting a broad coalition dedicated to advancing the university’s mission.
