The UAE Media Council has announced a new set of rules that people who advertise on social media must follow. These changes are meant to build trust with the public, protect viewers, and make sure the content shared online is of good quality.

The council shared that content creators will get some support as well. One big benefit is that they won’t have to pay for permits for three years. This move is part of a larger plan to help the media sector grow and improve, while also making sure rules are followed.

The new system is an update based on a law passed last year. It gives more power to the authorities to watch over digital content, and it sets clearer rules for how media should be made and shared.

One important part of the new plan is the introduction of an age rating system. This will help make sure that children and teenagers do not come across content that isn’t suitable for them. The council wants to make sure online content is safe for all age groups.

There’s also work being done on a new policy for licensing digital news platforms. This will include guidelines to help make news more trustworthy, accurate, and respectful of proper journalistic standards. These steps are being taken to make sure news shared online is responsible and doesn’t harm public interest.

If someone breaks these new rules, they could face serious penalties. First-time violators might receive warnings or fines that could go up to Dh1 million. If the same person or group breaks the rules again, the fine could double to Dh2 million. In some cases, the media outlet could even be shut down temporarily or permanently, and their licenses or permits might be taken away.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, the Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, said that this new system changes how media is managed and improved. He explained that it brings together modern laws, support services, and policies to help the media grow in a strong and steady way.

Along with these rules, the council is focusing on helping Emirati talent. They plan to support local writers, producers, and artists by giving them fee exemptions for different media services. This is to encourage the creation of content that reflects the country’s culture and identity.

The new system also includes clear rules on media service charges, how violations are handled, and what administrative penalties can be given. Overall, the goal is to support the media industry while keeping the public safe and informed.
