The United Arab Emirates, United States, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations have jointly announced the reopening of the Adre border crossing in Sudan. The statement, released from Geneva, emphasizes the significance of this decision as a crucial step in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
The joint statement highlights the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach those affected by the conflict and famine. It praises the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for their decision to open the Adre border crossing and expresses anticipation for the arrival of the first aid convoys in the coming days.
The statement urges the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to ensure that aid groups entering through the Adre border crossing are provided with safety, unrestricted humanitarian access, and operational independence. The international community stresses that humanitarian assistance must reach all regions of Sudan, including Darfur, without interference from armed or political actors.
