UAE President Meets Germany’s Merz, Signs Key MoUs

Abu Dhabi: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met today with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi to discuss ways to strengthen UAE-Germany relations and expand cooperation in key sectors.

The meeting focused on boosting partnerships in energy, innovation, and advanced technology, with both sides highlighting the strong and growing ties between the UAE and Germany. Sheikh Mohamed stressed the UAE’s commitment to further expanding bilateral cooperation to support shared interests and development goals.

The two leaders also discussed several regional and international issues, and underlined the importance of promoting regional and global stability. They emphasised that conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic solutions.

Key Agreements Announced

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed and Chancellor Merz witnessed the announcement and exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding cooperation between the two countries:

• ADNOC and RWE signed an MoU to cooperate across the gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chain.
  The MoU was exchanged by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and Dr Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE.

• Masdar and RWE signed an MoU to cooperate in the field of battery energy storage systems.
  The agreement was exchanged by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and Dr Markus Krebber.

• TA’ZIZ, Fertiglobe, and Covestro signed an MoU to strengthen cooperation in the chemicals sector.
  The MoU was exchanged by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and Dr Markus Steilemann, CEO of Covestro.

• An MoU was also signed between the UAE Pro League and the German Bundesliga to expand cooperation in football development.
  The agreement was exchanged by Abdulla Naser Al Jneibi, Chairman of the UAE Pro League, and Peer Naubert, CEO of Bundesliga International.

Official Reception and Luncheon

Earlier, Chancellor Merz received an official welcome at Qasr Al Shati, where Sheikh Mohamed accompanied him as he greeted several sheikhs, ministers, and senior officials.

Sheikh Mohamed also met with the German Chancellor’s accompanying delegation and wished them success during their official visit. Later, the UAE President hosted a luncheon in honour of Chancellor Merz and his delegation.
