UAE Stands with Afghanistan After 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has expressed deep solidarity with Afghanistan after a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif, claiming at least 20 lives and injuring hundreds.

In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Afghan people, wishing the injured a swift recovery.

Footage shared by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence showed military personnel clearing debris and rescuing survivors trapped under collapsed buildings. The earthquake caused significant destruction across residential areas, leaving many families displaced.

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan also confirmed its presence on the ground, assisting local authorities in rescue and relief operations. “We stand with the affected communities and will provide necessary support,” the mission said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Afghanistan in times of crisis, emphasizing the country’s continued humanitarian assistance to disaster-stricken regions.
