Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), the emirate is set to host the Arab-German Conference on Science and Humanities from November 17 to 20, 2025.
The four-day event promises to bring together over 100 leading academics and researchers from more than 40 universities and research institutions across the Arab world and Germany. Organised in collaboration with the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), the conference aims to strengthen research partnerships and open new avenues for scientific collaboration.
Day three of the conference will feature sessions at the University of Khorfakkan, highlighting Sharjah’s commitment to decentralising knowledge and promoting regional academic engagement. The initiative enjoys support from globally recognised institutions, including Cambridge University, Technical University of Munich, Cairo University, United Arab Emirates University, and Sultan Qaboos University.
The conference will explore a broad range of topics spanning health sciences, technology and space exploration, innovation, sustainable smart cities, and social and human sciences. One of its key objectives is to empower young researchers to establish long-term networks, exchange expertise, and develop joint initiatives addressing regional and global research challenges.
Attendees will include university presidents, specialists, and representatives from UNESCO and the World Bank, reflecting the conference’s international significance. Prominent speakers lined up for the event include Prof Thomas Silveira (Harvard University), Prof Claudia Derichs (Humboldt University, Germany), Dr Gina El Feki (Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Egypt), Dr Bassam Alam Eldin (American University of Ras Al Khaimah), Dr Mohamed Yahya (Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mauritania), and Dr Erik Hansalik (German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space).
Sessions and interactive workshops will examine critical issues such as water sustainability, the role of higher education in fostering international partnerships, space innovation, and universities’ contributions to sustainable development. By providing a strategic platform for dialogue, the conference will foster collaborative research that supports sustainable growth and promotes the exchange of global knowledge.
AGYA, headquartered in Berlin with a regional office in Egypt, plans to open a new office at the University of Sharjah to oversee its activities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. This expansion underscores Sharjah’s growing role as a hub for international scientific collaboration.
