ADNOC, Microsoft Join Forces to Boost AI and Clean Energy

Abu Dhabi witnessed a landmark collaboration as ADNOC, Masdar, XRG, and Microsoft announced a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) across ADNOC’s operations while delivering sustainable energy for Microsoft’s global AI and data center expansion. The deal was unveiled at the ENACT Majlis ahead of ADIPEC, highlighting Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a global energy innovation hub.

The agreement extends the long-standing partnership between ADNOC and Microsoft by bringing in Masdar and XRG to develop clean energy projects and infrastructure that support Microsoft’s worldwide AI and data center growth. By combining ADNOC’s industrial expertise, Microsoft’s digital technologies, and Masdar and XRG’s renewable energy capabilities, the partnership is set to transform energy production, management, and consumption.

Under the collaboration, ADNOC and Microsoft will co-develop AI agents to enable autonomous operations and maximize efficiency across the energy value chain. Microsoft will also provide advanced AI tools and training programs, fostering upskilling for ADNOC employees. The companies plan to explore a joint innovation ecosystem to create transformative solutions for the energy sector, leveraging AI to improve both productivity and sustainability.

ADNOC has already made strides in AI integration, having deployed generative AI enterprise-wide in November 2023 with Microsoft Copilot. The program has trained over 40,000 employees, with utilization rates exceeding 90% and generating more than 70,000 hours per month in productivity gains. This new collaboration builds on that momentum, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions that support AI infrastructure globally.

With this partnership, Abu Dhabi strengthens its position as a hub for energy innovation. By combining technology, industrial know-how, and renewable energy expertise, ADNOC, Microsoft, Masdar, and XRG are setting a precedent for how energy providers can responsibly power the AI era while addressing global sustainability goals.
