His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, met with the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation. The Canadian Prime Minister is on an official visit to the UAE, and he was warmly welcomed by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi.
During the talks, both leaders reviewed the long-standing partnership between the UAE and Canada, which has grown steadily over more than fifty years. They expressed a shared commitment to building on this strong relationship and exploring new opportunities in key development areas. These areas include investment, trade, technology, artificial intelligence, clean energy, climate action, education, culture, and sustainability.
The discussions also included regional and international issues of mutual concern. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability at both regional and global levels, highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation in achieving prosperity for all nations.
H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed noted that the UAE–Canada relationship serves as a model of effective cooperation aimed at promoting development and prosperity both within their regions and globally. He highlighted that both countries share common views on matters that support development, peace, and global collaboration, creating a strong foundation for future partnerships.
Prime Minister Mark Carney commended the progress of UAE–Canada relations over the years. He emphasized Canada’s desire to continue strengthening cooperation in areas that serve the shared interests of both nations. He also stressed that collaboration between the UAE and Canada contributes positively to global peace, stability, and prosperity.
As part of the visit, both countries signed an agreement focused on the protection and promotion of investment. This agreement aims to encourage economic cooperation, support strategic investment projects, and contribute to the shared development goals of both nations. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed on behalf of the UAE, while Prime Minister Mark Carney signed on behalf of Canada.
In addition, the two governments announced a memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation. This MOU reflects the mutual desire to expand economic partnerships and explore new opportunities that strengthen the ties between the UAE and Canada.
The meeting was attended by several senior UAE officials, including H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, as well as other ministers and high-ranking officials.
This high-level visit and the agreements signed during the meeting underscore the strong partnership between the UAE and Canada. Both countries aim to continue expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and sustainable development, creating lasting benefits for their peoples and contributing to regional and global stability.
Through these initiatives, the UAE and Canada are demonstrating their commitment to building a future based on cooperation, shared growth, and mutual respect, while strengthening ties that have flourished for over five decades.
