Kananaskis, Canada / Washington — President Trump abruptly departed the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, early Monday as military tensions between Israel and Iran surged. He warned Tehran residents to evacuate immediately, insisting “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon” and emphasizing his administration must return to Washington to manage the crisis.
This move disrupted summit plans, with discussions on Ukraine and global trade cut short. Trump’s departure—from a summit focused on multilateral diplomacy—rekindled speculation around U.S. military engagement. Israeli officials are urging Washington to deploy bunker-busting bombs capable of neutralizing Iran’s fortified nuclear infrastructure deep underground, such as the Fordow enrichment facility. Trump has hinted at willingness to make the U.S. option available.
Despite his hawkish stance, Trump also mentioned diplomatic outreach, asserting Iran “should talk” and remained open to nuclear deal discussions. U.S. military assets, including the USS Nimitz carrier strike group, have been repositioned in the region, reinforcing a defensive posture amid rising tension.

Inside G7 circles, Trump refused to endorse a collective communiqué calling for de-escalation and a Gaza ceasefire, diverging from European allies who stressed it as essential. French President Macron suggested a U.S. ceasefire proposal was under consideration, but Trump later clarified that his actions were dictated by the gravity of unfolding events—far more significant than diplomatic messaging.
Logs show that drone and missile exchanges over Israel and Tehran have caused over 224 Iranian and 24 Israeli civilian deaths, further layering urgency on Trump’s departure. With strained alliances and shifting regional dynamics, he is expected to consult his National Security Council upon arrival in Washington.
Trump’s rapid exit marks a potential turning point: it reflects growing constraints on Israeli capabilities to hit underground targets without U.S. bunker-busters, and illustrates increasing U.S. military readiness to influence the conflict’s direction. While supporters see this as “peace through strength,” others worry it risks a deeper American entanglement in another Middle East crisis.
