Apple CEO Tim Cook, known for leading one of the world’s biggest companies, rarely talks about his personal life. But in an interview on the "Table Manners" podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, he shared some personal stories, daily habits, and how the Apple Watch saved his father’s life.

During his visit to London in December, Cook spoke about his childhood and how it taught him to work hard. He said, “I started working when I was around 11 or 12.” He delivered newspapers and, at 14, worked in a burger shop for $1.10 an hour. These early jobs taught him lessons he still follows today.
Cook begins his day very early, waking up before 5 a.m. He spends the quiet morning hours answering emails. “This is the time of day I can control the most,” he explained. “Later in the day, things become harder to plan.” Many emails come from Apple customers and workers, sharing stories about how Apple products have helped them.
One story Cook shared was about his own father. The Apple Watch’s fall detection feature saved his father’s life after he fell at home alone. The watch sent an alert to emergency services. “The rescuers broke down the door when he didn’t answer, and it was a good thing they did. He was unconscious at the time,” Cook said.
When asked if his father liked the feature, Cook laughed and said, “No, he was upset about the door! He kept saying, ‘They kicked out my door!’”
Cook also talked about how work has changed since the pandemic. He said working from home is helpful, but being in the office is still important. Apple now asks most workers to be in the office three days a week. Cook himself works in the office four days a week but admitted that empty offices can feel sad.
Despite his busy schedule, Cook enjoys simple hobbies. He likes hiking in nature, visiting national parks, and eating at Ethel’s Fancy, a restaurant in Palo Alto. His favorite dish there is octopus. Cook also loves dark chocolate, Chardonnay, and seafood. If he had to pick a last meal, it would include hamachi crudo, branzino fish, broccolini, and a chocolate dessert.
