Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong issued a heartfelt public apology to passengers aboard the London-Singapore flight SQ321, which encountered severe turbulence, leading to an emergency landing in Bangkok and the tragic death of a passenger. In a video statement posted on social media, Phong expressed deep sorrow over the traumatic experience endured by everyone onboard.
The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, encountered extreme turbulence over the Irrawaddy Basin in Myanmar at an altitude of 37,000 feet. The turbulence resulted in numerous injuries and claimed the life of Geoff Kitchen, a 73-year-old UK national, who reportedly suffered a suspected heart attack.
Phong extended his sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, emphasizing the airline's commitment to providing assistance to affected passengers and crew members. He highlighted the priority placed on rendering support to those impacted by the incident, underscoring the airline's unwavering dedication during this challenging time.
