Sindh Rolls Out Free Pink Electric Scooters for Women

Dubai: The Sindh government is set to begin distributing free pink electric scooters to women and female students across the province this week, in a landmark initiative aimed at empowering female commuters with safe, fast, and affordable transport.

The Pink Scooties Project was announced by Sindh Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Memon, during a meeting with senior officials from the Transport Department and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA). He said the project would help women save time, reduce commuting costs, and ensure safe and dignified travel.

“We have ensured a transparent and merit-based selection process so that the maximum number of women can benefit,” Memon stated.

Eligibility and selection

The scheme targets permanent residents of Sindh who are either students or working women holding a valid motorcycle or car driving licence. Beneficiaries must pledge not to sell or sublet the scooter for at least seven years, according to Geo TV.

Shortlisted candidates will be chosen through a transparent balloting system in the presence of media, supervised by a committee of officials from the Transport, Excise, and Finance departments. Selected applicants must also pass a road safety skill test before receiving their scooters.

Additional support

The program includes scooter registration, insurance, helmets, basic riding and safety training, and access to Sindh’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

Government’s vision

Authorities describe the initiative as a long-term investment in women’s empowerment and sustainable mobility. By providing independent and eco-friendly travel options, the project is expected to boost employment opportunities, reduce reliance on crowded public transport, and encourage the use of clean energy.

Applications are being accepted online through the SMTA official website, with the government assuring a simple and transparent process accessible to women across both urban and rural Sindh.

The Pink Scooties Project will be rolled out this week, marking a significant step toward inclusive transport reform in the province.
