In 2025, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has seen remarkable advancements in agriculture, livestock, and water management, enhancing Oman’s food security and sustainability. These improvements stem from projects initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, these developments emphasize boosting food production, managing water resources effectively, and aiding farmers and livestock breeders. The overarching goal is to foster a resilient and self-sufficient agricultural sector.
Dr. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mashikhi has indicated that the governorate achieved an average agricultural yield of 1.267 million tonnes over the last three years, showing consistent growth and enhanced productivity across various agricultural sectors.
Notably, fruit cultivation increased by 7 percent, expanding to 841 acres with a yield of 4,633 tonnes. Furthermore, vegetable farming played a crucial role, covering 989 acres and yielding over 51,000 tonnes, marking a significant share of the region’s agricultural output.
Date palm cultivation rose by 1.3 percent, now covering 8,359 acres, with total production reaching 50,236 tonnes. This positions the governorate as the fifth in the nation for date production and the leading producer of “Mabsali” dates, showcasing its agricultural significance.
Alongside crop growth, various initiatives, such as the Model Grape Farms Project in Ibra, were launched, aiming to cultivate 100 acres of grapes, introduce competitive new varieties, and improve economic returns while bolstering food and water security.
Officials noted that North Al Sharqiyah has attained full self-sufficiency in essential products like dates, cucumbers, honey, and eggs, signifying the region’s vital contribution to Oman’s economy and its dedication to modern, sustainable farming practices.
