His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who is the Ruler of Sharjah and also the President of the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA), led an important meeting of the Academy’s Board of Trustees on Thursday. The meeting took place at the SPAA building in University City, Sharjah.

At the start of the meeting, His Highness warmly welcomed all board members, including the new ones. He thanked them for their hard work in helping the Academy grow, improve its programs, and offer strong academic degrees. He said that the Academy is becoming a leader in arts education both in the UAE and the region.

During the meeting, the Board spoke about future plans for the Academy and how to achieve them. They discussed how to keep the Academy strong, provide high-quality education, and attract creative students from both inside and outside the UAE.

They also talked about how the Academy has improved in many areas—like teacher training, student practice sessions, and the learning environment. The Board looked at how the Academy is building new partnerships by signing agreements with other organizations.

The Board also reviewed plans for the graduation of SPAA’s 2025 batch, set to take place this June. Some key graduation decisions were approved. They also discussed launching new programs focused on film studies and film production.

One of the big topics was the opening of the Academy’s new College of Music, which will welcome students in the next academic year. Entry rules for the college will follow top standards. The team also talked about offering music programs for youth and taking part in international arts festivals.

During the meeting, His Highness received a special plaque from the Lebanese National Theatre Festival. The festival’s third edition was inspired by the work of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi. A short film about Sheikh Khalid’s artistic life was shown at the festival, and the plaque was signed by all the artists who participated.

Many well-known figures attended the meeting with His Highness, including:

  • Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Vice-Chair of SPAA’s Board and Chairperson of the Sharjah Art Foundation
  • Ismail Abdullah Ismail, Secretary-General of the Arab Theatre Authority
  • Dr. Habib Ghuloum Al Attar, Secretary-General of the Theatre Association
  • Dr. Peter Barlow, Executive Director of SPAA
  • Ahmed Mohammed Bu Rahima, Director of the Theatre Department at the Department of Culture
  • Dr. Youssef Abdullah Eidabi, Cultural Advisor at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Foundation
  • Qasim Istanbouli, Founder of the Lebanese National Theatre
  • Dr. Nadia Al Hassani, Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah
  • Dr. Abeer Al Jundi

The meeting showed the strong efforts Sharjah is making to grow and support the arts, education, and young talents.
