On Tuesday evening, Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, who is the Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler's Office, officially opened the 40th annual Emirates Fine Arts Society (EFAS) exhibition at the Sharjah Art Museum.
This exhibition is an important event in Sharjah’s cultural life and takes place every year. It gives visitors a look at how fine arts have grown and developed in the UAE. It also highlights both personal and group journeys of artists, making it a key moment in the world of visual arts in the region.
During the opening, Sheikh Salem walked through the exhibition and viewed many types of artworks made by different artists. The artworks include photography, installation art, paintings, sculptures, and works made using oil paints, watercolours, acrylic, and ceramics. These different styles show the wide range of modern and traditional art found in the UAE today.

The collection of artworks on display paints a colourful and meaningful picture of how fine arts have changed over time in the UAE and the nearby region. The exhibition also strengthens Sharjah’s role as an important cultural and art centre in the Arab world.
While touring the exhibition, Sheikh Salem spoke with several artists who explained the ideas behind their artworks and how they created them. The many different art pieces show just how valuable this exhibition is. Now in its 40th year, it continues to give strong support to artists by giving them a space to share their work. It also helps keep Sharjah’s reputation as a place that celebrates and supports the arts—both locally and around the world.
This year’s exhibition was put together by the Emirates Fine Arts Society, with help from the Department of Culture, the Sharjah Museum Authority, and the Sharjah Art Foundation. It features 50 artists from across the UAE. Among them are pioneers who helped start the Emirati fine arts movement, as well as artists from other Arab countries and different parts of the world.
The artworks in this exhibition were selected by a special group of art experts. This group includes artists Khalil Abdulwahid, Dr. Karima Al Shomely, Salma Al Marri, and Dr. Mohammed Yousif, who is also the chairman of the Emirates Fine Arts Society. Together, they chose artworks that blend traditional styles with new, creative ideas—making this year’s show rich, lively, and inspiring for everyone who visits.
