The Saudi National Physics Team has made their country proud by winning four medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad. This big science competition took place in Paris, France, from July 17 to 25, 2025. Students from many countries came to show their knowledge of physics, which is the study of how the world and everything in it works.

What Is the International Physics Olympiad?

The International Physics Olympiad is a famous competition where high school students from all over the world take part. In 2025, 425 students from 85 countries joined this Olympiad in Paris. Students compete by solving very difficult physics problems. These questions test how deeply they understand science and how well they can solve complex challenges.

Who Won the Medals for Saudi Arabia?

This year, the Saudi team won four medals. Mazen Al-Shakhs won a silver medal. This means he did very well and was among the top students in the competition. Three other students won bronze medals. They are:

  • Hussein Al-Saleh

  • Mohammed Al-Arfaj

  • Ali Al-Hassan

Together, these four bright students brought great honour to Saudi Arabia. They showed that with hard work, good training, and support, they can compete with some of the smartest students in the world.

How Many Medals Has Saudi Arabia Won Till Now?

With these new wins, the total number of medals Saudi Arabia has won at the International Physics Olympiad is:

  • 7 silver medals

  • 23 bronze medals

  • 22 certificates of appreciation

This shows how the country has been growing in science education and how students are learning advanced topics that prepare them for the future.

Who Helped Train These Students?

These amazing results were not possible without hard work and guidance. The students were trained by King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, also called Mawhiba. Mawhiba is an important foundation in Saudi Arabia that finds talented students and gives them special training so they can become the country’s future scientists, doctors, engineers, and leaders.

The training was done with strategic partnership from the Ministry of Education, which means the schools and the government worked together to prepare the students. This strong teamwork gave the students the knowledge, practice, and confidence needed to do well in such a tough competition.

Who Sponsored Their Training?

The training was also supported by Saudi Aramco, which is the largest oil company in the Kingdom. Saudi Aramco was the exclusive sponsor, meaning it provided full financial help to make sure the students could prepare well. This included paying for expert teachers, training camps, travel, stay, and other costs.

How Were the Students Prepared for the Olympiad?

The students had to study advanced physics topics that are usually taught at university levels. Their training included:

  • Learning about mechanics, which is the study of motion and forces.

  • Studying electricity and magnetism, which explains how electric currents and magnetic fields work.

  • Learning about thermodynamics, which is about heat, temperature, and energy.

  • Studying modern physics, which includes topics like quantum physics and relativity.

They solved hundreds of difficult problems every week. They also attended training camps where expert teachers and professors explained concepts to them in detail and guided them step by step.

Why Is This Achievement Important for Saudi Arabia?

Winning medals in such an important competition shows that Saudi students are learning at a very high level. It also shows that Saudi Arabia is focusing on education and science to prepare its youth for the future. The Kingdom wants to build a strong economy not just based on oil but also on knowledge, research, and technology.

Such achievements motivate other students to work hard in their studies. When young children see that students from their own country are winning medals in science, they also get inspired to learn and dream big.

What Do Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education Say?

Both Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education congratulated the students and their families. They said this is just the beginning, and they will continue to find and train talented students in Saudi Arabia so the country becomes strong in science and technology.

They believe that every student has some talent, and with the right guidance, training, and support, they can achieve great things in life.

How Did The Students Feel After Winning?

The students said they were very happy and felt proud to represent Saudi Arabia in Paris. They thanked their teachers, trainers, and families who supported them. They said the competition was very tough, but their hard work and training helped them solve the difficult physics problems. They also enjoyed meeting students from other countries and learning how science is studied worldwide.

This achievement by the Saudi National Physics Team is an example of how dedication, support, and teamwork can lead to success. It also shows the importance of strong education systems and special training programs for gifted students.

Saudi Arabia continues to work towards Vision 2030 goals to empower youth, grow knowledge, and build a bright future. These medals are not just awards; they are a sign of hope and inspiration for every student in Saudi Arabia to dream big and work hard to make their country proud.
