Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives in Dubai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Dubai, UAE, to participate in the World Climate Action Summit, a significant event taking place during the United Nations 'Conference of the Parties' on climate, known as COP28.

Upon his arrival in the UAE, Prime Minister Modi took to social media to express his anticipation for the COP28 Summit and its aim to foster a more sustainable planet.

In a pre-departure statement, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of supporting developing countries by providing climate financing and technology transfer to help them address climate change effectively. He commended the UAE for hosting this critical event, highlighting the nation's significance as a partner in climate action for India.

Modi underscored India's longstanding commitment to climate action, aligning it with the country's social and economic development goals. During India's G20 presidency, climate action held a prominent place on the agenda, with the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration outlining concrete steps for sustainable development and climate action. Modi expressed optimism about COP28 advancing the consensus on these vital issues.

COP28, under the UAE's presidency, will facilitate discussions on strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. The high-level segment of COP28, known as the World Climate Action Summit, will see the participation of several world leaders.

During his stay in Dubai, Prime Minister Modi will also engage in three other high-level side events. COP28 is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 12.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the need for climate action based on principles of equity, climate justice, and differentiated responsibilities. He stressed the importance of providing developing nations with adequate climate financing and technology transfer, allowing them to access equitable carbon and development opportunities to achieve sustainable development goals.

Modi proudly highlighted India's achievements in various sectors, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation, energy conservation, and the Mission LiFE initiative. These accomplishments reflect India's dedication to environmental preservation.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several leaders participating in the summit, including Israeli President Isaac Herzog, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the newly-elected Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.
