Pakistan was jolted once again on Saturday morning as an earthquake hit Pakistan with a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale, marking the third earthquake in 24 hours. The tremors, recorded at a depth of 10 km, left residents anxious as fears of aftershocks spread across the region.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the latest earthquake in Pakistan struck at 05:04 a.m. (IST) with coordinates Lat: 36.64 N, Long: 72.96 E. The shallow depth of the quake increased the potential for aftershocks, heightening public concern. Local authorities confirmed that, so far, there have been no reports of casualties or significant property damage, but continuous monitoring is underway.
Just hours earlier, another earthquake hit Pakistan at around 03:25 a.m. (IST) with a magnitude of 3.9, also at a depth of 10 km. The repeated tremors through the night left many residents sleepless and fearful, as minor quakes have been a recurring event in the region’s seismically active zones.
The earthquake in Pakistan on Friday night had already unsettled residents. The 4.2 magnitude quake, recorded at 20:20 p.m. (IST), struck the country at Lat: 36.39 N, Long: 72.38 E, again at a depth of 10 km. Experts noted that the recent chain of tremors could indicate increased tectonic activity, as the region sits near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates — one of the world’s most earthquake-prone areas.
Seismologists from the NCS said that while the earthquake in Pakistan series appears to be of moderate intensity, shallow quakes like these can cause considerable shaking, especially in areas with poorly constructed buildings. They also cautioned residents to remain alert and follow safety measures in case of stronger aftershocks.
Authorities in Pakistan have urged citizens to stay calm but vigilant. Emergency response teams have been placed on standby in quake-prone provinces, while local disaster management authorities are assessing risk areas. For residents, the repeated earthquake jolts in Pakistan have been a chilling reminder of past deadly quakes that have struck the country, such as the devastating 2005 Kashmir earthquake that killed tens of thousands.
Social media platforms were flooded with messages from citizens describing the tremors. Many reported feeling light shaking, while others expressed relief that the earthquake in Pakistan did not cause serious damage this time. The string of quakes, however, has reignited discussions about the country’s preparedness for stronger seismic events.
As Pakistan continues to experience these mild-to-moderate quakes, experts are emphasizing the need for stricter construction standards and public awareness campaigns. Given that the earthquake in Pakistan series has hit three times within 24 hours, geologists are closely observing the region’s fault lines for any signs of escalation.
For now, residents remain anxious but resilient. The earthquake in Pakistan has once again highlighted the importance of readiness, quick response systems, and strong infrastructure in facing natural disasters that strike without warning.
