Specialists from the ministry shared plans to improve the port. They want to make it possible for bigger cruise ships to dock, which will help boost tourism in Oman. These changes fit with the government’s plan to make Oman a top tourist destination. The goal is to turn the port into a key location for tourists, with the ability to welcome ships of all sizes.
The council also talked about the services at the port, which help shipping companies and people who handle goods. The port has nine docking spaces that stretch for 1,750 meters. It also has a terminal for passengers, cargo handling services, and other useful facilities like baggage handling and fresh water supply. Additionally, it provides services like mooring and tug operations.
The council reported that in 2023, 110 cruise ships visited the port, bringing in over 431,000 tourists. The meeting also covered other important topics, such as a report from the Child Protection Committee of Muscat and the plans for improving the environment in Amerat. The Governorate Development Committee also presented new ideas and plans for the future.
