New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) has received over US$1 million from the Laidlaw Foundation to create a new program called the Laidlaw Scholars Program. This program will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) area and aims to help develop the future leaders of the world.

The program will start in spring 2026. It will offer selected students a two-year learning experience. Students will get to work on real research projects, develop leadership skills, and gain valuable work experience in the community. They will also become part of a global group of over 2,500 Laidlaw Scholars from universities all over the world.
Fabio Piano, Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi, said, "We are excited to work with the Laidlaw Foundation to create a group of leaders who will lead with purpose and fairness. Together, we will help young people from all backgrounds get ready to make a difference in the world."
Susanna Kempe, CEO of the Laidlaw Foundation, said, "Working with NYU Abu Dhabi lets us expand the reach of our leadership program. We are happy to help support smart and hardworking students to become wise leaders."
NYUAD is the first university in the MENA region to join the Laidlaw Scholars Network, which includes famous universities like the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, Columbia University, and Cornell University. Being part of this network will give students at NYUAD chances to work with others from top universities and learn from them. This matches NYUAD’s goal of encouraging creativity, excellence, and responsibility in students.
With support from the Laidlaw Foundation, NYU Abu Dhabi is helping to create the next generation of leaders who will make the world a better place.
