Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, has made a bold statement about artificial intelligence, saying that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has already been achieved—but in a different way than most people think.

Speaking on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Huang explained that AI is now reaching a stage where it can create real economic value. Instead of focusing on whether AI can think like humans, he believes the real milestone is whether AI can generate money and build valuable products.

Shift From Chatbots to Economic Value

Traditionally, AGI is defined as AI that can perform tasks at a human level, including reasoning, learning, and adapting to new situations. However, Huang offered a new perspective. He suggested that if AI can help create a company worth over $1 billion—even for a short time—it could be considered AGI.

This idea shifts the focus from intelligence to real-world results. According to Huang, AI is moving beyond chatbots and tools that assist humans. It is now evolving into systems that can actively contribute to building products and generating revenue.

AI Tools Making It Possible

Huang highlighted new technologies like OpenClaw, where multiple AI agents work together to complete tasks such as coding, content creation, and workflow management. These systems can perform work that previously required large human teams.

While AI is not fully running companies on its own yet, Huang said the foundation is already in place. With human guidance, AI could soon help create businesses that grow rapidly and achieve high valuations.

Limitations Still Remain

Despite his strong statement, Huang admitted that AI still has limitations. Current systems cannot fully manage complex companies like Nvidia. They lack long-term planning, real-world understanding, and human judgment.

Experts also point out that AI can still make mistakes, struggle with new situations, and lacks deep contextual understanding. This means AI is not yet capable of fully replacing human decision-making.

Debate Over What AGI Really Means

Huang’s comments have sparked debate among researchers and industry experts. Many argue that AGI should still mean human-level intelligence across a wide range of tasks, not just the ability to generate economic value.

Critics say Huang’s definition changes the meaning of AGI by focusing on money instead of intelligence. They believe creating a profitable product is not the same as having true human-like thinking.

Impact on Business and Industry

This shift in thinking could have major effects on the tech industry. The concept of AGI is already part of agreements between companies like OpenAI and Microsoft, where certain milestones depend on achieving AGI.

If AGI is defined by economic output, companies may reach these milestones faster than expected. This could change partnerships, competition, and access to advanced AI technologies.

What It Means for Nvidia

For Nvidia, this trend strengthens its position in the AI market. The company’s chips power most advanced AI systems, meaning higher AI adoption leads to higher demand for its products.

Huang has already projected massive growth, expecting up to $1 trillion in chip revenue from its upcoming platforms by 2027. This shows how closely Nvidia’s future is linked to the expansion of AI-driven economic activity.

Jensen Huang’s statement does not end the debate on AGI, but it changes how people think about it. The focus is shifting from human-like intelligence to real-world value creation.

AI is no longer just a tool for writing or coding. It is becoming a powerful system that can directly impact how businesses grow and how money is made in the future.
