Most people think weight loss is only about counting calories. They believe that if you eat fewer calories and burn more through exercise, you will lose weight. But celebrity fitness coach Shivohaam Bhatt, who trains stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, says this idea is too simple. He explains that the type of calories you eat matters more than just the number of calories.
Shivohaam says that calories are units of energy, but the body does not treat all calories the same way. The body breaks down sugar, protein and fat differently. This means 100 calories from sugary snacks are not the same as 100 calories from eggs or paneer. The result these foods create in the body is very different, and this difference affects weight gain, weight loss and overall health.
He explains that when a person eats protein, the body works harder to digest and use it. This uses more energy. This process is called the “thermic effect of food.” Because of this, eating protein can help preserve muscle and can help the body burn calories even while resting. This is why high-protein meals are recommended for those trying to lose weight in a healthy way.
On the other hand, he explains that processed carbohydrates and sugar behave differently in the body. When someone eats a lot of sugar or refined carbs, insulin levels rise. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body store energy. But when this hormone stays high for a long time, the body stores extra fat, especially around the stomach. This can lead to weight gain even when the person is not eating too many total calories.
Shivohaam also talks about metabolism. He compares metabolism to the engine of a vehicle. A strong and healthy engine burns fuel smoothly. A weak or tired engine does not use fuel properly. In the same way, a healthy metabolism burns calories efficiently. But if a person is stressed, sleeps poorly, does not drink enough water or does not move enough, their metabolism slows down. When the metabolism slows, the body starts storing more fat instead of burning it.
He says that weight loss depends on several things:
The type of food a person eats
How their hormones are working
The quality of their sleep
How hydrated their body is
The amount of muscle in their body
Their stress levels
Because of these reasons, two people may eat the same number of calories, but one may lose weight and the other may not. The difference comes from how their body uses those calories.
Shivohaam advises that people should not only focus on eating less. Instead, they should pay attention to what they are eating. Choosing whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, paneer, eggs, nuts and whole grains can support a healthy metabolism. Avoiding sugary drinks, packaged snacks and fast food can help the body avoid sudden spikes in insulin and fat storage.
He also explains that muscle is very important for weight control. The more muscle a person has, the more calories their body burns even when they are resting. This is why strength training is helpful. It helps build muscle and increases calorie burning throughout the day.
In simple words, Shivohaam’s message is clear. Weight loss is not only about counting calories. It is about choosing the right calories, eating balanced meals, sleeping well, staying hydrated, managing stress and building muscle. When all these parts work together, the body becomes healthier and weight loss becomes easier and more natural.
His advice encourages people to look at food as fuel and not just as calories. A person’s health depends not only on how much they eat but on what they eat and how their body processes it.
This approach is more balanced and helps create long-lasting healthy habits. Instead of dieting, skipping meals or following extreme plans, focusing on better nutrition and lifestyle choices can lead to more stable and healthy results.
