Switch 2 Smashes Records, Nintendo Forecasts $2.3B Profit

Nintendo has struck gold once again with the launch of its Switch 2, which has become the world’s fastest-selling gaming console since its June debut. The excitement around top titles like Super Mario and Mario Kart World has fueled an unprecedented rush among fans, marking a new high in the company’s console history.

The Japanese gaming giant reported that Switch 2 sales have surpassed 10 million units in just the first half of 2025-26. Riding this momentum, Nintendo has raised its annual net profit forecast to 350 billion yen ($2.3 billion), up from the earlier projection of 300 billion yen. Net profits for April to September hit nearly 200 billion yen, reflecting an 83% increase compared to last year.

The original Switch, launched in 2017, sold over 154 million units, becoming the third best-selling console of all time. Its massive popularity during the pandemic, boosted by hits like Animal Crossing, set the stage for the Switch 2’s success. Nintendo continues to rely on its consoles as the core of its business, even as it diversifies into movies and theme parks.

Games such as Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World are maintaining strong sales, and Nintendo plans to expand the platform further by regularly introducing new titles. The company also sees potential in non-traditional markets such as China, the Middle East, and other parts of Asia, aiming to replicate the Switch 1’s global appeal.

The franchise’s cultural impact remains significant, with 2025 marking 40 years since the original Super Mario Bros. game. Fans can also look forward to a sequel to the blockbuster Super Mario Bros. Movie, set to release in April 2026, and a first-time appearance of Mario as a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City later this year.

With record-breaking sales and an expanding lineup of games and experiences, Nintendo’s Switch 2 is not just a console—it’s a global entertainment phenomenon poised to shape the gaming landscape for years to come.
