The Consulate General of India in New York has reported that Indian students and professionals affected by a residential building fire in Jersey City are safe. The fire, which began in the basement and extended to the first, second floors, and roof, displaced over a dozen individuals, primarily students. The Consulate is actively engaged, providing continuous assistance, including accommodations and essential documents.
In response to the incident, the Consulate General of India in New York stated on social media, "@IndiainNewYork learned of the unfortunate fire incident in a residential building in Jersey City. Indian students and professionals residing there are safe and no one was hurt. We have been in constant touch with the students and are extending all assistance, including accommodation and important documents."

According to City spokesperson Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, Jersey City firefighters discovered the fire had already spread when they arrived, causing damage to neighboring structures. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters. The American Red Cross is aiding 14 residents who suffered severe fire and overhaul damage to the entire building. The Consulate's prompt response and ongoing support highlight their commitment to assisting those affected by the incident.
