Meghan Markle Returns to Screen in Comedy Film Close Friends

Meghan Markle is set to make her return to the big screen with a cameo role in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, who gained fame starring as Rachel Zane in the hit TV series Suits for seven seasons, will appear as herself in the film.

Close Personal Friends features an ensemble cast including Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, Henry Golding, Natasia Demetriou, Patti Harrison, and Dustin Demri-Burn. The movie is currently filming in Los Angeles, with Markle spotted on set in Pasadena, California, wearing sunglasses and getting into a Range Rover.

The film follows a couple who befriends a celebrity pair during a trip to Santa Barbara, leading to personal lines being crossed and a series of awkwardly comedic situations.

Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Markle appeared in films including Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me, and Horrible Bosses. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple moved to the U.S. and launched multiple initiatives, including Netflix projects and their media company, Archewell Productions.

In August, Prince Harry and Markle extended their partnership with Netflix and Archewell Productions with a multiyear, first-look deal. “My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonate globally,” Markle said.

Archewell Productions has produced documentary content for Netflix, including Harry & Meghan, Polo, Heart of Invictus, and Live to Lead. Upcoming projects include the second season of With Love, Meghan, featuring a lifestyle and cooking focus, along with a special holiday episode in December.

The company will also collaborate on a feature adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel Meet Me at the Lake, which chronicles a decade-spanning love story that begins with a chance encounter and a broken promise. Fortune praised the partnership, calling it “a tremendous personal challenge” and “truly incredible” to see her work recognized.

With this cameo, Meghan Markle marks her first onscreen appearance in a scripted production since stepping back from acting, signaling a new chapter in her creative journey alongside Netflix and Archewell Productions.
