A video of French President Emmanuel Macron arriving in Vietnam has become very popular on social media. The video shows his wife, Brigitte Macron, seeming to lightly smack him on the face just as he stepped off the plane.
Macron arrived in Hanoi on Sunday evening to start his trip to Southeast Asia. But it was not his official visit that caught people’s attention. Instead, a short and awkward moment between him and his wife, recorded by the news agency, made many people talk online.
In the video, when the airplane door opens, Brigitte Macron quickly reaches out with both hands and gently pushes President Macron’s face to the side. Macron looks a little surprised but quickly recovers and waves to the people waiting to welcome him.

What made people more curious was that Brigitte’s face was partly hidden behind the airplane door during this moment, so it was hard to tell exactly what was happening. A little later, the couple walked down the stairs together, but Brigitte did not take the President’s arm when he offered it to her.
Many people online had questions about this strange moment. However, the Elysee Palace, which is the official home of the French President, explained what happened in a softer way.
An official from Elysee said, "It was just a moment when the president and his wife were joking and relaxing before the trip started. It was a close and friendly moment."
A person close to the President said that the couple was having a small argument but also trying to relax before the long trip. “It was a moment of closeness,” this person said. Another insider called it “a harmless little fight.”
At the same time, Macron began his visit in Hanoi. He will also visit Indonesia and Singapore during this week-long trip.
