Renowned British author Jilly Cooper, celebrated for her romance-filled novels like Riders and Rivals, has died at the age of 88. Her passing, confirmed by her agency Curtis Brown on Monday, has left family, friends, and fans worldwide in deep mourning.
Cooper’s literary career spanned decades, producing 18 novels that captivated readers with vivid storytelling, strong characters, and intricate social worlds. She became a defining voice in contemporary British fiction, blending humor, drama, and romance in a unique style that earned her a devoted following.
Her children, Felix and Emily, shared a heartfelt statement: “Mum was the shining light in all of our lives. Her love for all of her family and friends knew no bounds. Her unexpected death has come as a complete shock. We are so proud of everything she achieved in her life and can’t begin to imagine life without her infectious smile and laughter all around us.”

The author’s influence extended beyond the printed page. Felicity Blunt, reflecting on Cooper’s impact, said, “I have lost a friend, an ally, a confidante and a mentor. But I know she will live forever in the words she put on the page and on the screen.”
