Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children, part of the M42 group, has teamed up with ProFaM, a company from the UK, to offer a new treatment called ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC). This procedure helps women keep their ability to have children in the future or delay menopause naturally. This exciting partnership was announced at Arab Health 2025, showing how the UAE is working to improve women’s health and fertility care.

OTC works by freezing a small piece of ovarian tissue, usually before a woman turns 35. Later in life, this tissue can be put back into the body to help keep hormones balanced, delay menopause, and prevent its effects. This can also help women keep their ability to have children in the future.
Unlike egg freezing, which needs hormone treatment and IVF (in vitro fertilization), OTC is easier. It is a simple procedure that can be done in one day without needing to stay in the hospital. This procedure is especially helpful for women who need cancer treatment, have conditions like endometriosis, or just want to delay menopause naturally instead of using hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
This partnership with ProFaM is a big step forward in providing more choices for women who want to take control of their reproductive health. The experts at ProFaM, including Professor Simon Fishel and Professor Christiani Amorim, are well known in the field of fertility preservation.
The OTC service will be available starting in the first half of this year. It will be offered as an elective procedure and can also be included in surgeries for conditions like endometriosis. Abu Dhabi Biobank will store the ovarian tissue in a special lab at a very low temperature, keeping it safe for up to 15 years. When needed, doctors can re-implant the tissue to support a woman’s hormonal health.
Dr. Summia Zaher, CEO of Danat Al Emarat Hospital, said, “Danat Al Emarat Hospital is setting a new standard for women’s health. As more women choose to have children later or want better ways to manage menopause, OTC offers a solution to preserve fertility and manage hormones. It gives women control over their health and well-being.”
Professor Simon Fishel from ProFaM said, “We are excited to work with Danat Al Emarat Hospital to offer this service. OTC gives women a chance to make smart choices about their future health and fertility. It’s a new, natural way to manage hormones and preserve fertility.”
Dr. Zahid Khan, a gynecologist at Danat Al Emarat, is leading the project. He said, “This service gives women more options for managing their reproductive health. It’s an important step in women’s healthcare and offers a natural solution with long-term benefits.”
OTC will help women in the UAE and other countries by giving them more control over their health. The natural way of restoring hormone levels with re-implanted ovarian tissue is better than using artificial hormone treatments, reducing side effects and improving life quality. This service also offers a good alternative to egg freezing, which is more acceptable to women in the UAE and other countries.
Danat Al Emarat Hospital and ProFaM plan to expand this service to more hospitals in the Middle East and beyond, helping more women around the world. Women who are interested in learning more about OTC.
