Delay in Jana Nayagan Release as Madras HC Blocks Censor Approval

In a significant development for the eagerly awaited film Jana Nayagan, the Madras High Court on Tuesday nullified the single judge’s directive to the Censor Board regarding the issuance of the film's censor certificate. This decision has postponed the movie's release further.

The court emphasized that the central board should have had adequate time to address the matter before any approval was granted. Consequently, Jana Nayagan will be unable to premiere in theaters until it secures the necessary clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

An additional hearing on the censor certification is anticipated shortly at the Madras High Court. Previously, on January 20, the court had reserved its decision, which was slated for announcement today, January 27.

Marketed as Vijay's final film before committing to politics, Jana Nayagan was initially set to debut on January 9, ahead of Pongal festivities. However, mere days prior to its release, the Censor Board referred the movie to a revising committee following a formal complaint.

The film's producers, KVN Productions, turned to the Madras High Court, which first mandated the Censor Board to issue a UA certificate subsequent to modifications. However, after an appeal from the board, a two-judge bench of the court suspended the earlier ruling and rescheduled the matter to convene on January 21, post-Pongal.

Subsequent to this, KVN Productions requested immediate relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court considered the case on January 15 but decided to reject the plea, remanding it back to the Madras High Court for continued proceedings.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani.

Fans are anxiously awaiting the film's release, but the approval from the Censor Board remains pending, delaying this highly anticipated launch.
