Israeli Airstrike Kills 26 in Gaza City House Attack

An Israeli airstrike hit a house in the Shejaia area of Gaza City, killing at least 26 people, including children. Many others were hurt in the attack, and some are still missing and stuck under the wreckage. The strike also damaged nearby homes, according to doctors and medics.

The Israeli military had told people in Shejaia to leave the area last week, saying they were going to act against rebels there.

Israel started bombing Gaza again last month after a two-month break. Since March 18, when the bombing restarted, Israel’s attacks have killed at least 1,400 people, according to health officials in Gaza. After the airstrikes began, Hamas fired rockets back into Israel.

Both sides blame each other for the failed ceasefire talks. Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are trying to help, but they have not been able to end the fighting yet.

The war in Gaza started in October 2023 when Hamas fighters killed 1,200 people in southern Israel and took around 250 hostages. Since then, more than 50,800 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s military actions, according to Palestinian authorities.
