In Dunedin, New Zealand, the mysterious death of 28-year-old Indian-origin man Gurjit Singh unfolded on a Sunday under puzzling circumstances. Gurjit Singh, a Chorus technician who had been residing in New Zealand since 2015, was discovered dead outside his rented house in Liberton, covered in blood and amidst shattered glass. The discovery was made on Monday morning by a concerned friend, prompted by Singh's wife's distress call expressing her inability to contact him.
Initially considered "unexplained," the nature of Gurjit Singh's demise transitioned to a homicide investigation after a post-mortem revealed multiple stab wounds inflicted by a sharp instrument. Singh had been dead for some time before his body was found. The New Zealand Police deployed a substantial team of investigators, including Dunedin-based investigators and Christchurch-based ESR scientists, to examine the scene at Hillary St.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis provided insights into the ongoing investigation, sharing that a team of 25 investigators was actively engaging with Singh's family, friends, and work colleagues to trace his movements leading up to his death. The circumstances surrounding Singh's unexplained death were being scrutinized with significant effort.
Croudis disclosed that a "sharp weapon" was involved in the incident, distinguishing it from the glass found at the scene. The sequence of events leading to the glass breakage and stabbing was still under investigation. Singh's father, upon learning of his son's tragic death, expressed shock and deep distress. Otago Punjabi Foundation Trust member Narindervir Singh conveyed the father's state of depression and trauma, emphasizing the profound impact of the tragic news. The community awaits further developments as the investigation unfolds.
