The resale market for World Cup 2026 tickets in Toronto and Vancouver has seen a decline in prices following FIFA's schedule unveiling. Only a select few high-profile matches are slated for Canada, raising concern among fans and ticket holders. Nevertheless, Toronto's organizers are optimistic about attendance rates.
Earlier, over two million tickets were obtained during the initial sales, without fans knowing specific match details. Following FIFA’s grouping of 42 out of 48 teams, Canadians learned which games will occur in their stadiums.
As the smallest venues among the 16 host cities, Toronto and Vancouver missed out on several major fixtures. BMO Field in Toronto, accommodating 44,315 fans, will host games involving Germany and Croatia, yet will not feature key teams like England, France, or Norway, assigned to larger U.S. stadiums. In contrast, Vancouver's BC Place, with 48,821 seats, will host Belgium as its highest-ranked team.
Post-announcement, the resale market reacted quickly—StubHub reported a staggering drop of more than 50% for the June 17 Ghana vs. Panama match in Toronto, while Germany vs. Côte d'Ivoire on June 20 had a steadier price pattern. Vancouver's resale prices showed only minor fluctuations.
Sharon Bollenbach, Toronto's World Cup lead, emphasized that current ticket trends might not indicate overall interest and expected a global buzz as fans internalize the schedule. She believes prices will stabilize after the initial frenzy.
Ahead of the schedule reveal, FIFA paused its resale marketplace, with plans to reopen on December 15. In January, four million additional tickets will go on sale, with dynamic pricing based on demand.
Toronto representatives highlight the strong local interest for teams like Germany and Croatia, along with Italy, which could potentially face Canada if they qualify on June 12. They tout BMO Field's more personal atmosphere, contrasting the larger U.S. venues, claiming it will enhance the fan experience.
