New York Heart Doctor Warns: High Blood Pressure Shows No Clear Symptoms

A well-known heart doctor from New York, Dr. Evan Levine, has shared an important message about high blood pressure, also called hypertension. He has worked for more than 30 years at Mount Sinai Hospital, and he says many people do not understand the real signs of this condition. The most surprising part is that the most common symptom of high blood pressure is no symptom at all.

Dr. Levine said that many people wait for pain or discomfort before they visit a doctor. But high blood pressure does not always cause clear signals. That is why doctors call it the “silent killer.” A person may look and feel normal, while the condition silently damages their heart, blood vessels, and kidneys.

However, some people do show signs when their blood pressure is high. Dr. Levine listed a few warning signals. One common sign can be a headache, which may feel like pressure in the front or the back of the head. Some people may have blurred or unclear vision, especially when they are tired. Another sign is shortness of breath, which means feeling like you cannot take a deep breath, even while walking slowly.

Chest pain can also happen when the heart works harder to pump blood. Some people may get nosebleeds, though doctors say this does not happen to everyone. Another sign is frothy or bubbly urine, which means the kidneys may be affected.

Even though these signs can appear, Dr. Levine warned that most people with high blood pressure feel nothing at all. This makes the condition dangerous, because it can lead to stroke, heart attack, or heart failure if not treated in time.

He strongly advised everyone to check their blood pressure regularly, even if they feel healthy. A yearly check at a clinic or hospital is important. If someone cannot afford to visit a doctor often, they can use a home blood pressure monitor to check it themselves.

Dr. Levine explained that early testing can save lives. When high blood pressure is found early, simple steps like regular exercise, reducing salt, eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, and taking medicine if needed can protect the heart.

High blood pressure is common in many countries, especially among people who sit for long hours, eat a lot of fast food, or live under stress. But small lifestyle changes and regular monitoring can prevent serious problems.
