"Dubai and the UAE are dedicated to leading global digital transformation and positioning themselves as an international hub of excellence for future industries," Sheikh Hamdan declared. He pointed out that the emirate's robust infrastructure and growth-friendly ecosystem have made it a prominent center for the world's leading technology firms, providing a platform for collaboration that unlocks new avenues for growth, innovation, and value creation in the digital space.
Sheikh Hamdan further highlighted the importance of future-oriented technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), in achieving the Dubai Economic Agenda D33’s objective of generating AED 100 billion in annual economic value through digital transformation over the next decade.
The meeting also addressed Google’s recently launched AI Opportunity Initiative, which is the largest AI initiative in the MENA region. This $15 million investment aims to enhance accessibility to the opportunities presented by AI, with the goal of empowering half a million individuals with AI skills within the next two years.
In attendance at the meeting were several notable figures, including His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and Director General of the Dubai Crown Prince's Office; His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism; and His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Digital Dubai.
Google has had a significant presence in the region since it opened its headquarters in Dubai in 2008, overseeing its operations across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The company’s parent entity, Alphabet, reported impressive global revenues exceeding $307 billion in 2023, with a notable 15% revenue increase to $88.27 billion during the July-September quarter of 2024. This strong financial performance underscores the importance of continued collaboration between Dubai and leading technology firms like Google.
